Pesta Odou Bakanjar

The Odou Bakanjar Festival is one of the traditional festivals found in the state of Sabah. The Odou Bakanjar Festival is a traditional festival of the Dusun Tatana tribe in Kuala Penyu Sabah.The Odou Bakanjar Festival is a festival that has been organised by the Sabah Tatana Cultural Association (STCA) to create a celebration or festival to gather all the ethnic Dusun Tatana who today practice various faiths and religions.

The festival is usually held during the Muslim Days such as during the Chinese Stone Year celebrations as at this time most of the ethnic Dusun Tatana families return to the village on vacation and gather together.

Various competitions and performance activities will be carried out during the festival which will feature or highlight the ethnic culture of Dusun Tatana such as food, drink, dance and many others.

Actually, this Odou Bakanjar Party is made with several purposes and among the main purposes this Odou Bakanjar Party introduced are:

  • Strengthening the ethnic relations of Tatana Hamlet with other ethnicities.
  • Nurturing the culture of Tamana Hamlet.
  • So that the younger generation of Tatana Hamlet know their culture.
  • So that the ethnicity of Tatana Hamlet is better known to the community.
  • Make the culture of Tatana Hamlet a tourist asset of the country.

Usually, this party is also made in Kuala Penyu district, Sabah and it is as an attraction for tourists from inside and outside the country who come to Kuala Penyu.
